This explains what information SAIGE Opportunity collects about you, why, who it's shared with, and the choices you have. We've written it to be read, not skimmed past.
At a glance
- We collect what you give us to run your account, match you with opportunities and produce your readiness assessment.
- Your business profile is private until you choose to publish it.
- Readiness answers are processed by AI providers to score them — without your name or email.
- We use Google Analytics to see how the platform is used. You can turn it off any time.
- We don't sell your information or use it for advertising.
1. Who we are
SAIGE Opportunity (saigeopportunity.org) is run by SAIGE Africa(“we”, “us”). We decide how the personal information described here is used, which makes us its controller (or “responsible party”) under data-protection law.
Questions, requests and complaints about privacy go to info@saigeafrica.org.
2. What we collect
When you create an account
Your name, email address, password, country, and the kind of user you are (SME or cooperative, startup, investor or service provider). Your password is stored only in hashed form by our authentication provider — we never see it.
Your profile
Your job title or role, the kinds of opportunities and sectors you're interested in, and how often you want our digest email.
Your business profile
If you create one: the business name, website, sector, stage, country, team size, year founded, summary and description, annual revenue, capital raised, and what you're seeking. It stays private until you choose to publish it to the directory (see section 4).
The readiness check
Your answers to the readiness questions, your conversation with our AI assistant, and the scores and report produced from them. If you ask for your result to be verified, we also collect your preferred contact method, your availability and any note you add.
Claiming an organisation
Your name, role, work email, phone number (optional), your relationship to the organisation, why you should manage it, and any supporting document you upload. Documents are kept in private storage that only our review team can open.
What you do on the platform
- Opportunities you tell us you're applying to, with any note you add.
- Organisations you follow.
- Requests you send to businesses in the directory, and any message with them.
- Team invitations you send or accept, including the invited person's email address.
Emails we send you
Our email provider tells us whether each email was delivered, opened or bounced, which links were clicked, and whether it was reported as spam. We use this to keep emails reaching people, and we stop sending the digest to anyone who reports it as spam.
Analytics
Unless you turn it off, Google Analytics records the pages you visit, how you got here, the actions you take (such as signing up, saving or sharing an opportunity, or sending a request), and general device and approximate location information derived by Google. You can switch it off at any time — see section 7.
What we don't collect
We don't read your device's location — the only location we hold is the country you choose. Opportunities you save are kept in your own browser, not on our servers.
3. How we use it
- To run your account and the platform — signing you in, showing your saved and tracked opportunities, your business profile and requests. We need this to provide the service you signed up for.
- To match you with opportunities — your country, interests and business details shape your personalised feed and digest.
- To produce your readiness assessment — your answers and conversation are scored with the help of AI (see section 5).
- To send you email — account and activity emails (welcome, application reminders, claim and request updates), alerts from organisations you follow, and a weekly digest. The digest is on by default; you can switch it off at any time.
- To verify organisation claims and keep the platform safe — reviewing claims, limiting requests, and acting on misuse. This is in our legitimate interest and yours.
- To improve the platform — using email delivery data and Google Analytics. This is in our legitimate interest in knowing what works; you can turn analytics off at any time.
- To meet legal obligations — where the law requires us to keep or disclose information.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
4. What other people can see
- Published business profiles. When you publish your business to the directory, anyone can see it, and it can appear in search engines. You choose which parts to show — score, summary, what you're seeking, key facts and contact — and you can unpublish at any time.
- Organisation managers. Once we approve your claim to an organisation, your name is shown on its public page as the person who manages it.
- Requests to businesses. When you send a request, the business owner sees your name, headline and message. If an owner accepts an “express interest” request, we send the owner's account email address to the person who asked.
- Readiness results. Private to you unless you choose to publish your score or share a report.
6. International transfers
Our service providers may store or process information outside your country, including in the United States and the European Union. Where they do, we rely on their contractual commitments to protect it to the standard your local data-protection law requires.
8. How long we keep it
We keep your account information, business profile, readiness assessments, requests, claim documents and email records for as long as your account is open. When we delete your account at your request, your profile and activity are deleted with it, and we take down any business profile you published.
Google keeps analytics data for up to 14 months.
9. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you have the right to:
- see the personal information we hold about you and get a copy of it;
- have it corrected or deleted;
- object to, or ask us to limit, how we use it — including analytics;
- withdraw any consent you have given.
Much of this you can do yourself:
- edit your profile and business profile, or unpublish your business, from your account;
- turn off the digest from the link in any digest email or from your profile;
- unfollow organisations, withdraw a pending request, or leave an organisation's team;
- turn analytics off with Cookie settings in the footer.
To delete your account or get a copy of your information, email info@saigeafrica.orgfrom the address on your account. We'll respond within 30 days.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to a data-protection regulator: ours is the Data Protection Commission (Ghana). Depending on where you live, you can also go to your own — for example, the Information Regulator (South Africa), the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (Kenya), or your local supervisory authority if you are in the European Union or United Kingdom.
10. Security
Information travels to and from the platform over encrypted connections. Access to it in our database is restricted by account, so you can see only your own private information, and our team's access is limited to what their role needs. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach that affects you, we'll tell you and the relevant regulator as the law requires.
11. Children
SAIGE Opportunity is for people aged 18or over. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger; if you believe we have, contact us and we'll delete it.
12. Changes to this policy
We'll update this page when what we collect or how we use it changes, and change the “last updated” date above. If a change is significant, we'll also tell you by email or on the platform before it takes effect.
13. Contact us
Email info@saigeafrica.org with any question about this policy or your information. Our Terms of Service explain the rules for using the platform.
